Don't understand the component's behavior

Seems I don't understand something very basic 😞

Created two components - screwdriver handle and tip. Then created the screwdriver itself as another component, using a rigid joint between the handle and the tip.

Unfortunately when I try to use that third component for the solid sweep, it doesn't allow to select the whole thing - either the handle or the tip can be selected, so the sweep is done only with the part of the screwdriver.

I tried to combine the handle and the tip into one body, but Fusion doesn't allow to select any part as the target body, only as the tool body.

Created a rigid group with the handle and the tip - didn't change the behavior during the sweep, still can select only one part of the whole thing...

Another issue - can't select any faces on the screwdriver while trying to offset faces...

Would really appreciate if someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong here...

I think the main issues you are having is because you are using External Components.  You cannot combine bodies between external components.  Break the links in the top level assembly and you can proceed with your combining and Solid Sweep.  I could not figure our path however for your Sweep.  Model is attached.

Of course, breaking the links creates a different issue (will be more difficult to maintain the components current in all designs), but at least it immediately solved all my current misteries, thank you !

P.S. Don't worry about the sweep path - it was just a test design

"insert derive" should do what you need. You can add external references using this, but the geometry can be modified without it "pushing back" to the original file.

Wow - thank you for the pointing out ! Had a quick look into "Derive" - looks like a very useful tool I completely forgot (or never knew) about !
