Autodesk Fusion on Linux – Challenges and Future Prospects
I would like to take this opportunity to address all interested Autodesk Fusion users on Linux. 👋
When I first started this project, Autodesk Fusion ran surprisingly well under Wine, with hardly any issues on Linux. However, with the introduction of SSO (Single Sign-On) authentication, more and more problems arose, gradually impairing its functionality under Wine. 🐞
The recent shift by Autodesk to a purely DirectX-based graphics support—eliminating OpenGL—has further complicated the situation. This change affects not only Linux users but also those on Windows and macOS, as some older computers are no longer supported. ⛔️
Looking at the development of Autodesk Fusion on Linux over the years, the future does not seem particularly promising—at least from my perspective. ⏳
On the other hand, FreeCAD is gaining more attention, especially among smaller businesses. The software is continuously improving, and thanks to numerous tutorials, it has become significantly more accessible for many users. 💡
Our project and the dedicated community will continue doing everything possible to keep Autodesk Fusion running on Linux. However, given Autodesk's numerous changes, the question remains: how long will we be able to keep up? ⚠️
Fact is: Our project and the dedicated community will continue doing everything possible to keep Autodesk Fusion running on Linux. ❤️ But with Autodesk's constant changes, it is uncertain how long we will be able to sustain this effort. 🔮
