distancing two bodies?

Hi,

I am a bit stuck and new to fusion 360. I have created two angel bars and need to distance them from a point from them both.

how would you go about accomplishing this in 360 when both are either seperate components or bodies without manually aligning them?

e.g. something like sketch dimensions to sperate the distance

thanks

Philip

Jensenvphilp,

Let me start by welcoming you to Fusion 360.  From your attached image it looks like you have created each angle as a component.  You can then use our joint command to constrain and offset the two angles.

Below is a link that has some additional Fusion 360 training.  The assembly lesion will cover this subject matter.  Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Hi Mike,

had another question after following the tutorial.

I created 2 angle bars and made 90 degree cuts on each end on one face.

I created the angle bars by making a sketch on the front plane and extruding.

I used parameters to control the thickness, length and width.

thickness and width are controled throught sketch dimensions.

I used the parameter name to control the length of the angle bar on the extrude command.

My problem is now I have created a 3rd angle bar which needs to be independent of the other 2 and I need to make it to a specific length while maintaing its profile.

I am unsure how to shorten the length, if I use extrude it does not mantain the cut and has undesired reults.

regards

Philip

You could make a copy (or mirror) of the angle bar, then select 'Make Independent' on the context menu. Position it. You could also use the chamfer command to create angled cut.

Philip,

Happy to help.  Can you add me to the project, mike.prom@autodesk.com or email me a exported .f3d file so that I can take a look at how you modeled them?  With out looking at your model I would advise you to look at your parameters.

If you make each of them separately you will be able to edit the length parameter of the third angle without affecting the other two.

Hi Mike,

thanks again for your speedy reply.

was not sure how best to take one of the profiles made and duplicate it so that I could easily manipulate it independently

I have added you to the project.
