Disconnect one component from another?

When you have a component and use the "Pattern" tool to make copies of it, those copies are "connected" to the original component in that, if you make a modification to any one of them, the modification is implicitly applied to all of them. I wasn't aware of that until I actually used the pattern tool and then tried to make some modifications to one of them. I do recognize that it's a powerful and very useful feature, but ...

What do I do if I want one of them to NOT be associated with  the original component, to become an independent component by itself? How do I "disconnect" it from the pattern?

Or should I have used some kind of copy tool? Or does that do effectively the same thing as Pattern and has the copied component inherently linked to the original?

Patterning a component always means that they're linked and each manipulation will be populated across all instances.

You can create an independent instance by right click the component and call Copy and Past new. Im not aware of a pattern function that can create independent instances of components. This works only with bodies, but this is a different story.

You can pattern a component containing a sketch which contains a point which in turn can be used as a joint origin for the original component and its clones (or just create the pattern in a sketch).  You would still need to Copy|Paste New each new clone plus create the joint.

I thought this might be done by first creating a Base Feature, pasting the Component/Body into the feature, then performing the pattern, then Finishing the Base Feature-  however, despite there being no DISPLAYED History of the Pattern, the Bodies are still linked.    This might be a "bug"/oversight in either the performance of Base Feature... or my understanding of how it is "supposed to" perform.
