Hi Hakkan,

One of the benifits of Fusion's cloud integration is unlimited versions of the design saved on the cloud so that you can go back to any point in the design.

To answer your specific question, the check box in preferences turns off automatic versioning where Fusion will save a version every few mins to make sure you never lose data. However all of your explicit saves will still make new versions.

Can you tell me why you would want to turn off versioning completly?

Thanks,

Bankim

This is not a big issue for me.
Normaly I include the version number in my filename. (all of my files, even docs)

Has this option been removed?

Sadly this is not a benefit for me and for a lot of people out there apparently, the versioning system in fusion 360 brings more problems than it solves, when cleaning out projects mostly, how is it possible that I can't delete a file that I am 100% sure I don't need any more just because a previous version of a design that I am 100% sure I won't promote is using that old file, this has been driving me crazy for months now. Please allow us to truly disable file versioning! have mercy!

I agree, this is super frustrating for me. The stock solution of re-exporting the design as an f3z archive from the A360 web portal is less than ideal: You'll lose folder structures, as well as any components that are not explicitly used int he design. Copying the design (to create a new "v1") also doesn't work, since the copy will also refer to all the old revisions of subassemblies, which themselves have their own version histories...

...It's a mess. Would be great to be able to turn it off.

I agree, I can see the benefit of versioning if you are building a product. But we are using it to design tool and die for a metal stampings shop. It really isn't a big hassle, but I don't need a new version every time I save a file to walk to the shop. It's not a big issue, but I just have a bunch of "User Saved" versions that seem unnecessary

Regarding not being able to delete files due to references to other files: this is indeed a typical issue of a versioning system. It does not necessarily have to be a problem though.

What we did was create a folder "garbage" and we'd move anything that we couldn't delete to that folder. We had read access of that folder disabled, so to the end user it was as if the file was actually deleted.

Now, that was in a different CAD/PLM system, but I assume something similar can be done with Fusion 360.

Johan

We'd like to have the option to disable versioning sistem too, or at least to be able to decide when to push a new version.

It's particularly painfull that the version number is added to the file name every time we export the project, create a BOM file or run the CAM tool on Fusion 360 electronics. I need to use those files with external scripts and it's very annoying to rename them all the times because of the version number at the end.

Lorenzo

Only a beginner here with Fusion360 but an experienced CAD technician. The software is awesome but this creating a  new version every time you save is just insane. Worse yet, if you open a saved design and simply rotate the part to look at it from a different angle, there it is: an asterisk shows up next to the part name signifying it's ready to increment the version if you save. No actual changes were made, just  inspecting the part. By the time my part is finished, it will be Version 15,374... This is incredibly stupid. I really don't like not being in control of the version of my designs. It's the equivalent of both extreme hand holding and the software behaving like IT is in charge and not you the creator and designer. I feel like Fusion 360's friggin' handmaid: I'm doing all the heavy lifting to bring my baby to life only to be told that it's not mine and that I'm not smart and/or responsible enough to manage my own versions. Please give us control over our own designs.... you monsters!

Agreed,

and how much faster do you think the navigation area would be if it did not have to sit al load forty billion versions info on thousands of parts every few seconds....navigation bar refreshing, vanishing, refreshing, vanishing.
