Dimensions inconsistency- Which is it?

I'm trying to find what the diameter is of the object I've created.  I had problems getting the ruler to work so I created a sketch line from one side to the other and asked for the dimension.  The result was 58.17mm.  Then I took the ruler length of that same line and it says the length is 58.482 which is the same length it told me the line was when I drew it. 

See attached screen shot. How do I know what the actual length is?

58.482 The reason its not the other dimension is because the dimension is not aligned to the line.

In order to align it to the line you have to right click while creating the dimension and select aligned.
