Dimension invisible while in sketch

there's been a bit of weirdness since the last update. this has happened to me before though but I can't ignore it so I need a solution. working on a component in a large assembly i'm trying to define a sketch and when I select the dimension tool t lets me select the points but the dimension is not visible. I found if I isolate the component, then I can add the dimensions normally. still would like to know why

1. Are the elements that you want to dimension in the active sketch?

2. Please share the file.

File > export > save as f3d on local drive  > attach to post.
