Dimension feature grayed out

Hi Folks,

I'm a green horn!

Doing a "Sketch", when I bring up the "Marking Menu" (a very cool feature BTW) the "Sketch Dimension Tool" is grayed out.

What did I do wrong?

I'll attach the file.

Hi @Anonymous,

Ah, I think I know what is going on here. Did you make sure to hit "Edit Sketch" on your sketch before trying to edit the sketch dimensions. If you try to edit the sketch dimensions while still in the Modeling environment it won't work. For example, if you go into the Sketch menu in the Browser tree and right-click Sketch3 you will have an option to Edit Sketch. Then you can use the Marking Menu to use the Sketch Dimension tool (or hit D as a shortcut to bring that up!).

Hope that helps!

Thanks,

I'm having the same problem.  I see the three sketches in the browser.  When I right click sketches 1 or 2, I have the edit sketch option showing but if I hit either of those options the sketch disappears. When I right click on sketch 3, the appearance of the sketch changes, lines get thicker, I guess so they can be edited.  But I do not see an edit sketch option showing.  When I try to pull the dimension, I get a dialogue box telling me that it will over constrain the dimension, hit ok to force dim. which does not allow me to adjust the dimension.

forcor,

This was a very early drawing on my part, it should be noted the sketches were on different work planes, this affects the dimension feature.

Going to the correct Sketch (3 in this case) makes all the difference.

Hope this helps.

For some reason, a right click on sketch 3 does not offer an edit sketch
offering. I'm following a Udemy tutorial, and I'm starting over, from the
beginning to be certain I'm not overlooking something. I usually find these
problems are "operator error", so I'll keep looking. Thanks for the reply.

If you have "Capture History" turned on it won't give you the option to "Edit Sketch".

Right click on the "untitled" at the top of the tree and go to the bottom and click "Do not capture Design History" and it will work.

I changed this function in my preferences to "Capture History" so it is always on now, I didn't know any better a month ago

Thanks, I found it, and changed the setting, and that does now offer edit
sketch option. Thanks again. Is this how you spend your Sundays? I
thought I was one of the only crazy people who do this kind of stuff on a
day off. Have a happy holiday.
