Difficulty with Imported Frame Parts

Hi

I have broached this subject before, but I was given this set of parts in a dxf, that put together make a frame.

I have had a friend work on the parts, as once inserted into fusion, alot of the parts wont extrude properly. We have checked and checked and double checked the last past that do not seem to import properly. We can not work out why they don't work. There are the four parts that are not coloured in the picture.

A&AFrame Problem.JPG

Usually its about the lines not being correctly jointed. Is it possible for someone to have a look and see what they can come up with as it would be really helpful to get this project completed.

I have attached the DXF and Fusion file for you to look at.

Kind Regards

Ian

Those 4 profiles are not Z zero, actual Z value I didn't check,

The sketch is way too big for Fusion, and could be broken into sections for better performance,

The fix is easy enough, select those profile/s, and right mouse click for the menu, in that menu you will find a

Move to Sketch Plane

option, select that and wait a while, the profile/s then turns orange,

there were no missed corners.

Fixed file is attached

Hi

I really appreciate you looking at the design.

I have broken down each part individually but those were giving me alot of grief.

Thank you and I will check out the fix you did.

Kind Regards

Hi

I am really pleased with the fixed drawing. Thank you very much.

I tried to do the adjustment as you suggested,

The fix is easy enough, select those profile/s, and right mouse click for the menu, in that menu you will find a

Move to Sketch Plane

option, select that and wait a while, the profile/s then turns orange,

But I couldn't find the move to sketch plane option. I right clicked on the part and couldn't see it there.

It would be good to know how to do this.

Would you be able to show some screenshots of where this option is.

Hope you don't mind.

Kind Regards

I tried to capture the menu item as a screen shot, and failed a few times,

but @g-andresen (thanks) has shown the two important points, the menu item, and the performance lag for that sketch.

Hi Dave,

With screenshots, fusion is a bit strange.

In sketches and objects the right-click menu disappears when the screenshot is triggered.

I create screenshots with SNAGIT.

For such situations SNAGIT has a capture profile with time delay.

maybe it is interresting for you

Hi

I have been demonstrating theses frames on a forum, using screenshots taken with a snipping tool in windows 10.

That has been a problem with Menus dissappearing.

So I appreciate the heads up on the alternative to take pictures.

I appreciate the heaps of help you have provided so far by the way.

Kind Regards

I was using the windows snipping tool, it has a delay, but couldn't figure the workflow at the time.

thanks for the heads up...

Hi

I seem to be having the same problem.

I have this next project that have been supplied to me in dxfs.

Foot Plate 1.JPG

I am trying to use the method you showed me with the other parts, but it doesn't seem to work.

The one thing I notice is all the holes are on a second plane behind the shape outline, which you will see in the fusion file.

Is there a way of adjusting this in fusion at all.

I am using draftsight out of fusion and I don't know how to make two planes one, so I wouldn't have this problem in fusion.

Once again I would appreciate any help.

Kind Regards

Hi Ian,

The first problem is the same as in the first case.

It can be solved with sketch to plane.

But then there are still open vectors.

I exported the DXF and closed the vectors in V-carve.

In the fusion app store there is still the sketch checker for such problems.

The source dxf is not joining most of the corners to the radius fillets. Donate a copy of Fusion to the draughtsman!

To fix it in Fusion, rather than exporting etc., there are a few techniques in the screencast.

After moving all to sketch plane,

I deleted the existing fillets, as the two sets were same size, and replaced them, leaving just the corners of the slot,

used the Extend command to join the corners to the right place, you will see the red preview for the wrong line, and very small red extensions to confirm the correct adjustment.

Would not like to do your first example this way.

Hi

I appreciate the Link to the app store and the sketch checker.

That will help immensely and thank you for adjusting the dxf.

If I didn't need to use dxfs provided to me in the first place and stayed Fusion native, I am sure I would have less problems.

Alot of the fusion work I am doing though is showing 3d representations of 2d cad work.

I did try the method you showed me on the previous case, but couldn't find the open areas. This is probably a bad aspect of draftsight that it is very hard to pick up errors. Zooming into joins barely picks up disjointed spots.

I have three more parts in that set to do, so hopefully I will be apply to apply what you suggested.

Kind Regards

Ian
