Design won't open after crash - work is lost

I was working in another application and got a crash notice about Fusion 360.  I submitted a crash report and went on with my other business. I came back to Fusion and found that my design will not open.

I went to the web site project and found the version from yesterday. I promoted that version. However, it still will not open in Fusion.

I don't want to keep going back to older versions if I can help it.

Can anyone give me some insight into how I might figure out what is wrong?

I know I'm not a Fusion 360 rep, but have you tried uninstalling and installing Fusion 360. Maybe there is a corrupt program file thats causing the program to malfunction.

Interesting idea to uninstall and reinstall Fusion - is that really a suggested troubleshooting step for this? I should mention that I have several other designs that open fine.

Hi Jim,

I'm sorry to hear that the file couldn't be opened after the crash issue, could you share us the file that has the issue, so we could check it and try to find a way to fix it if possible? If it's fine to share, you could export the file and download it from a360 web page, or directly invite me (maowen.zhang@autodesk.com) to the specified file on data panel (tab "People"). Thanks!

Hi Maowen,

I have tried to invite you to the project and share the design with you. Frankly, the Fusion 360 site is pretty confusing for this. If I haven't done this correctly, please let me know and I will try again.

Thanks for the offer to help.

HI Jim, Thanks for sharing the project folder! I see there are 3 files (cookie cutter outline, cookie cutter solid and ShrimpwareLogo1).

They could be open in old version but couldn't in newer version. Unfortunately I haven't found a suitable to fix the files yet, I could double check this tomorrow.

In the meantime, did you noticed the message about file corruption post which mentioned a way to roll back to previous version? Keep you updated if I get more findings on this. Thanks!

Thanks for the link. I was working with splines in this file, so that could be my issue.

I read "no way to recover" - wow, that is really bad. There is history in my project, but I have to go back a week.

I am sad.

Hi Jim,

With the latest build 2.0.1517 (6/29/2015),  I'm able to open two files (cookie cutter outline, ShrimpwareLogo1). Could you check it?

I couldn't open the file "cookie cutter solid" which is corrupted, could you try roll back one version to see whether it helps ? (I could see the version list)

Hi,

Thanks for looking at this.

I am also running 2.0.1517.  I believe I was running this version when the corruption occurred, even though this version is supposed to fix the spline/undo problem.

I think you are now able to open the file because I rolled back to one week ago. I'm now just considering my work lost. I will also roll back the "cookie cutter solid" model when I get enough energy to overcome my current frustration with Fusion 360.

Hi Jim,

I updated the file "cookie cutter solid" which is also able to be opened with build 2.0.1517 build, but it's empty which is the way it is, right? Or you have updated them?

Please let me know if you meet further issue with openning these 3 files.

Thanks,

Lori

Hi,

"Cookie Cutter Solid" is blank. It was a mistake as I tried to troubleshoot my other problem.

I have tried to delete that file several times, both from Fusion 360 and from the A360 web page. Both times it will not go away.

Hi Jim,

I just tried delete the empty file ""Cookie Cutter Solid", it seems work in my data panel. Could you check it when you have time? Keep in contact. Thank you!
