design a boat and lay flat

Hello,

I am a total beginner to fusion and am slowly learning it lesson by lesson on Youtube. My plan is to design a 16 - 20ft aluminum boat, and break it up into individual pieces and lay them flat so they can be cut on a CNC plasma table. I've read multiple posts saying fusion isn't the best for this kind of build.  Before I spend hundreds of hours learning this program, can someone let me know if it is right for this kind of build, and if what I need can be done. Id hate to learn this program and have to switch to something else half way through the design.

thanks.

yes and no.  depends on your construction techniques.  fusion won't automatically create develop-able surfaces for you, which can be helpful for this type of thing.

Don't know what a develop-able surface is?  Then you have a few things to study up on before you worry about what software your learning.

The only type of item that Fusion can create a Flat Pattern for is a Sheet Metal item. And Fusion cannot handle compound curvature for Sheet Metal items. So it's only possible if your boat is shaped without any compound curves. Even then, it's going to be an annoyingly difficult process.
