Derived assembly parts are out of position after updating

Hi there!

I'm curious if I might have some sort of error in my workflow.   I have a design for a robot, and a separate file for its head.  I used "insert derive" to add the head to the model, and position it (roughly), but when I add bodies to the original head file, they end up out of position.

Should I be doing this differently?

You aren't using any Joints in the Robot Head Production Model, so essentially those components are floating (not constrained).  In the Frisco Robot Production Model, you moved the components that were part of the initial Insert Derive, but the new components were not included in that move.  So when you add new components to the Head then update the robot, the new components do not move.

The solution is to use Joints in the Robot Head Production Model to connect the components together.  Then they will remain connected together in the Frisco Robot Production Model.  You should use Joints in the Frisco Robot Production Model also to connect those components.  As-Built Joints will be sufficient if you never want the component positions to move relative to each other.
