Deleting Control Points From Existing Spline.

I have another question about an existing knife handle design issue. The handle has a specific shape I needed to copy for machining so divided it up in .25" sections longitudinally following the same method of boat builders lofting a canoe. The top edge of the handle is flat and the opposite edge (bottom) has several curves. In order to keep the same curve line I measured down from the top line and placed control points every .25" apart at the proper measured distance. I used spline to connect the dots and completed the curves to match the original design. From there I drew vertical planes (like canoe stations) at each control point pair so I could loft them into 3D and make a solid and it worked well. Now I want to take the original 2d drawing of the profile with the splined curve and extrude it but I can't delete the control points I laid down for the spline which is preventing me from completing the sketch like normal to move on and extrude to a solid.
Thanks for looking,
Rod
