Delete Components from Simulation

I have a design that I have been working on that I need to do a simulation on. Many of the components are purchased/sourced. I do not want to have all of the components in the simulation--I only want to include a few (ones we manufacture). I thought that changing the visibility in the browser might enable me to do this; I was wrong.

Is there a way to delete components from a simulation?

One workaround would be to save the components in question in a different file, but I would not prefer to do that.

I see a folder under the simulation model in my tree called "Model Components". Can you turn them off through there?

@Brady_Fulton,

I am only able to toggle their visibility (which does not remove them from the study). There does not appear to be a delete/remove option.

Hi!

I have the same problem right now. I cannot work because of it. Is there a new option to exclude components from simulation?

@innovatenate@jeff_straterDo you have any info on this?

Hi @Anonymous,

I'm not much of a simulation expert, but I think that this changed a little while back.  Now, I think you have to go into the Simplify environment to get rid of components.  This is kind of a modeling environment for simplifying your design so that it can be simulated.  Here is a very primitive example:

If this isn't what you are looking for, let me know, and I'll dig a bit deeper.

I was looking for the same answer and I found what to do.

From the simulation environment, go to the "Simplify mode"

Once you're in there, you can right click on a component and select "remove".

This will remove it from the simulation only.

How can I re-enable a removed component from the simplify functionality ?

Let's say I want to do simulation with different parts present / not present in my simulation.

I had the same problem! The solution is to create another simulation model. It's really not obvious how to do this.

1. right click on simplify in the simulation browser.

2. right click on the simulation model you already have and in the contextual menu select new simulation model.

Now you can remove different components from your model than you did in the previous simulation model.

Good luck and I hope this helps some people!

Hahn's response works to restore the components that were removed in the simplify environment, but it does not carry over any of the information (contacts, materials, constraints, or loads). It seems like the better way to program the remove function in the simplify environment would be to allow you to restore parts that you have removed within the same simulation model.

That would save me a lot of time to have that functionality.

Thanks,

Will

I agree with you. Even easier than a restore functionality would be to hijack the visibility button in such a way that only visible components / bodies are taken into account. That's how I (total simulation noob) expected it to work.

On another note: As I removed many elements in the process of simplifying my model, I fail to create a new Simulation model that contains all components. I removed all studies (static stress), returned to model environment, saved the file, then switched back to sim-env, clicked create (static stress) study, just to be presented with the subset of components I had chosen before. No way to get a new Simulation Model with all components included. What am I missing??

Answer to my own question: go to Simplify and either roll back history or create a new simulation model from the simplify create dropdown menu!

Go Simplify, then use the history to delete the RemoveInstance items and your components will be back in the game.

Hi,

to recover previously removed components you need to create a new simulation model for the respective study. To do so, use the button "new simulation model" in the menu ribbon.
