Decal move problem

I try to move a decal to the right position, but it's not possible...for me at least. 🙂

Please look at my attached Screencast.

Fusion 360 2.02,088 OSX 10.11.5

Have you got the same problem?

Hi Adam,

Thanks for reaching out to us. The Decal has to be applied onto a face. When moving the decal, it will stop at the point where the origin of the manipulator (i.e. the center of the image) is off the face.

The best practice of the decal feature would be that the image is fully stayed on the face. So you may consider splitting the image if necessary. Hope it helps.

I just hit the same limitation, and it's very frustrating.

So this isn't considered a bug? Of course, decal must be limited to face, but why limit the center point to be inside face? Should I really to to graphic editor and manually cut my image every time on any model parameters change instead of just repositioning decal a bit?

Hi kriomant,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. The center point of the manipulator is used to calculate the decal position (UV) on the selected face, but I agree that we can do something to improve the experience.

I'm going to forward the requirement to the development team. Please feel free to post it on our IdeaStation to get more votes from the community.

Ok, here is an idea, so that anyone who hit the same problem could vote for it.

I have the same issue but worse, my surface has a hole in the middle so I have no chance of placing the decal where I need it.

Hi Team,

Has this not been solved yet?  I have a body that has a hole in the middle.  I need to place a decal on the body, but conveniently the handle for the image is in the middle of the image as well.

Is it impossible to place a decal with something that has a hole in the middle of it?!  In 2020?

Thanks!

I'm doing a decal wrap on a vehicle so in order to do, for instance,  the door and have it line up with the rest of the wrap I have to blow it up and move it past the extent of the centrally located drag point.  An option to relocate the drag point would probably work?

I've got the same problem with a label/decal on a switch panel,

I tried suppressing the apertures/holes in the panel but still couldn't move it.

I also edited the .png to add features outside the actual panel in the hope that would allow me to move it but still no luck.

This needs fixing.

Two years on and this is still an issue. Absurd.

Most frustratingly, this is still an issue. In my case , I have a beautifully aligned decal and it moves when punching a hole into the body at a location that happens to coincide with the origin of the decal! Took me an hour to find this thread and to stop questioning my sanity. Definitely a bug that needs fixing!

Autodesk, THIS IS A BUG!!  No it is not normal to work this way.  I have used a lot of modeling and animation programs and Fusion 360 is the ONLY one I have used where you can't move a decal if there is a hole in the middle.  Its annoying and needs to be fixed.  The work around for this takes a lot of time and time is money.
