Cutting square notches on Cone

Thanks for your help. I am trying to cut 4 equally spaced rectangular notches around the bottom of this cone .135" wide X .075" deep. I have tried extruding a rectangle through the walls, but I can't seem to get it on a right plane, and once I pull it through, how do I get rid of this new shape. And, how do I get these notches in the right place (at zero, 90, 180 and 270 degrees).

Much appreciate any help you can offer - I have to print this one prototype.

Quick look at your model, are you aware it's not a solid? Do you know how to make it solid? Is that your intent?

If you meant it to be solid, do this to make it solid. Then, would you be able to cut your squares?

The cone is not a solid. It is megaphone like, with .20" walls.

Very new to this. I thought I made a "megaphone" cone with solid .2" walls - how can I tell?

Ah, OK. That's not exactly what I meant by solid.

In CAD terms, solid means it's a closed, watertight body. As opposed to what you started with there, which was a surface body - which is really just a wall with no thickness.

If you make the correction I suggested, I think you will understand what I mean.

Here is the file with the corrections to make it a solid. Look at the two steps I added in the timeline. See the difference? Try your cuts now.

I wouldn't mess with the surface tools at all for this.  just the solid tools. 1 sketch and 1 revolve and the megaphone is done.  Not sure what you are meaning by the square notches, but here is my best guess from your description.  see attached

Thank you laughingcreek! I think that's it - now I need to go through the timeline to see how you did that. This is all very cool!

Thank you JohnC911! I didn't know about the timeline - so this helps!
