Cutting a Sketch From a Curved Solid

Good Evening All,

I was trying to find the simplest approach to projecting a sketch from a plane to wrap around a hollow cylinder.

I'm trying to make a twist lock type housing. I thought this would be a very simple task but it's turning out to be quite a bit more difficult than I had anticipated.

If I extrude from a plane tangent or offset from the cylinder, the geometry of the extruded cut distorts the shape. I need the geometry of the cuts to flow with the curves of the cylinder.

Hello @underwood.michael.c

According to given description you are trying to wrap a sketch around a curved surface and then extrude it to create some kind of groves.

I think selecting Start as "From Object" in Fusion 360 Extrude command can be used for the purpose.

Select profile->Hit Extrude->Set Start as "From Object"->Select the curved object on which you want to wrap the sketch.

I have added following image as demo.

Extrude from ObjectExtrude from Object

Please do let me know if this was helpful.

Thank you,

Best Regards
