I think your process can be improved right from the start.
Are you willing to start over from scratch with step=by-step instructions?
We will fully define the first sketch as a robust and predictable start...
Blue lines and white endpoints should stop you in your tracks before continuing on.
It is important to fully define your sketches.
I would first create a rectangle as shown below to define the overall width and height of the assembly.
Then add a Vertical construction line...
Now change the two outside vertical lines to Construction and add the Centerpoint Rectangle as shown below...
Now add the second Centerpoint Rectangle...
...add the sketch point to the center vertical line as shown (be careful not to snap to the midpoint of the vertical line).
Now sketch and angled line and add a Coincident constraint between the angled line and the sketch point.'

I assume something like this is what you want?
If I understand your question, you want to create a Half Lap Joint at the intersection of the two diagonal legs. In the video I show this, I made a couple of wrong picks but you will see you can easily recover. Model is attached.
