Hi,
I am trying to create a custom trapezoidal thread on a cylinder.
I created a coil with a triangular profile using height and pitch. Constructed a "plane along a path" using 1 edge of the coil. Created a sketch on that plane and drew the thread profile. I also created a centre line for my cylinder.
For obvious reasons, the thread profile does not intersect the centre line/path.
The "Plane along a Path" is positioned at the beginning of the coil/guide rail (the figure given as the distance along the coil is 0.00, and I tried both proportional and physical distance).
The profile is small enough not to self-intersect when it is swept along the coil.
When I try to sweep the profile using path and guide rail, selecting the cylinder centre line as the path and the coil edge as the guide rail, I get the following errors and or warnings-
1 error(s)
The sweep could not be created using the specified path and guide rail.
If the profile is partway along the path, try moving the profile to one end of the path.
Swapping the path and guide rail has no effect, I.E. using the coil edge as the path and the cylinder centre line
as the guide rail.
If I change Extent from "Perpendicular to Path" to "Full Extents" I do get a custom thread - however the thread
twists along the coil.
Warning
The path does not intersect the profile. For best results, the path should intersect the profile.
Error
The sweep would create an illegal surface. Try changing the profile or path.
Again, I am trying to create a custom thread. How can the profile intersect the path?
Also the profile is small enough not to self-intersect when swept along the coil.
I have tried a bunch of stuff, changing the pitch, profile and everything else that I could think of. As well as opening a new design.
Nothing helped.
Has the sweep function been changed?
Regards,
Brett
