Creating Splines Using Points

We have a sample part which we sent to 3D scanning. The resulting DXF file (please see the attached file) has tons of points instead of splines or arcs. Is it possible to convert these points to splines in Fusion 360? 3D scanning company told us that they can't do that because it will affect accuracy. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

In the Scripts and Add-Ins dialog, there is a script called "ImportSplineCSV", which will create a spline from a comma-separated list of points.  If you can get the points into this format, this might help.  However, be aware that if you have LOTS of points, the resulting spline and the sketch it's in will have some performance problems.  How many points are we talking about?

What is  your manufacturing tolerance?

Technically it is not very precise anyhow as it is thousands of straight faceted lines rather than curves.

You have two options that I am aware of:

1. Convert to a polyline and then Spline in AutoCAD.

2. Start a new sketch and then trace overtop of the original sketch.

You should be able to get well within your manufacturing tolerance.  If I was using the Option #2 I would probably try to replace with tangent arcs rather than a spline.  (I gave it a quick trial and looked good to me, but I don't know your tolerance.)

The source doesn't want to be liable for discrepancy between scan and smoothing - but you are in a position to make engineering design intent decisions.

Edit.  Can you get the points from them in the form of an Excel file?

Yikes, that is incredibly tight - the features will have to be ground and difficult to inspect.

No wonder they didn't want to smooth the curve.
