Creating draft on a body for a pattern for a foundry.

Good Day.

I am working on creating a pattern for a gear for my 1921 Port Huron Steam engine. I have completed the gear in its proper design based off of the original drawings, but in order to get it cast out of ductile iron, I need to add a draft to make releasing the pattern from the sand easy without damaging the sand negative or the pattern. This draft needs to be parallel to the faces of the gear teeth and in a .5 to 2 degree angle. I will be 3d printing the pattern and potentially others in the future. I have attached 2 pictures showing what the model currently looks like. The gear was generated on the spur gear generator. Bull Test v1 2.pngBull Test v1.png

I presume you already tried "draft" under the modify window?  I was able to get a spur gear to draft just fine with that tool.  (couldn't try it on your model b/c you didn't export it and attach to your post ;)).

I presume this will be a 2 part mold, with the parting line being at the flange between the spur side and the hub side.

If Draft command doesn't work, you may need to simplify by removing any fillets/chamfers and applying them after.
