Creating a Groove/Gap

How do I create a groove/gap on this line? It would be where a gasket would go so it has to center of that line cuz its the centerline.

Hi @Anonymous,

 

Thanks for your post and Exploring the Fusion 360.

 

As I understand you are interested to provide groove at blue sketch line as shown in Image file.

So I try to show this on simple model, How to create groove by using patch work-space and create groove using combine operation, Please check attached screen cast for more details.

What do I do if the line is already created and there. It's the center point for the mill, would i even need to create this or could i just tell the mill to cut on that line.

You don't NEED to have the groove modeled. You can generate a toolpath just from the line.

 

But... generally the CAM is based on edges, and the centerline toolpath generated depends on the tool's diameter. I don't know anything about CAM, but if you want to take a centerline only instead of an edge, I imagine you'll have to generate some compensating offset somehow. Or maybe run it as an Engraving operation, which I assume bases the toolpath on the center of the tool.
