Create a Groove

To create a groove in the outside of a cylinder (radial groove) I have been drawing a profile and revolving the sketch.  There has to be a way to add a groove to cylinder after the cylinder is created.  Please  help.

One way would be to create a sketch of the grove shape and revolve that around as a cut to the original cylinder.

Looks like once you do that it will then allow you to press/pull the new groove cylinder as well as both circular faces created to resize the groove to what ever you want.  Though I would probably go back and edit the sketch instead.
