Create a female feature from a male feature?

Is there a way to create a female from a male or vice versa?

When doing splines or a drive spline like the one in pic I am having to start from scratch for the mating part.

Even if the parts are the exact size and theoretically wont slide over one an other I can compensate in the CAM side.

Sure would be a time saver!

Could you please attach your Male model so someone on the Forum can take a look at the process.  If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 model follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save as a F3D or F3Z file to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section, of a forum post, to attach it.

Did you attempt Combine - cut?

Are all of your sketches fully defined?

Are there any unresolved (and apparently ignored) issues highlighted in your Timeline?

The corresponding female part will only have the splines that match this male part.

I don't think this is a Manufacturing/CAM question

There will be two different parts with only the splines matching/engaging "Male and Female Spline"

So, can you derive a male spline feature from a female spline or vice versa without starting from scratch?

Simple round shaft and round bore is no problem but when you get into intricate shapes it takes quite a bit of time to redraw the entire feature from scratch.

Perhaps you need to be a bit more elaborate in your problem description and share the model.

Several of your dimensions do not make logical sense to me.

I did not bother to add appropriate clearances - I would do that in the model rather than waiting till CAM.  The model should be your single source of truth.

Step your way back and forward through the Timeline to see my modeling steps.

One simple sketch (you might break this up into different sketches - all fully defined and no unresolved issues).

No extraneous workplanes.

Edit as needed.

Here you go.  No clearance has been added between the two bodies.  Model attached.

This is a one off part

I do a lot of one off repairs for the forestry industry

So the female part you drew will be flipped end for end bored to go over the male large OD (with .002 clearance) and engage the splines

In this case maybe I was over thinking the male female issue

Should be able to use the Push/Pull to create a female then save as different part?
