CRASHING ON EXPORT OF .IGES FILE

Anonymous
Not applicable

Yesterday I had an entire design disappear off of my screen, then a few minutes later a crash...

I restarted Fusion 360 and clicked on the recovery file, and then picked up where I left off on the design. I sent it off to a colleague for review, but got a reply today that the .iges file was "blank". I started up Fusion 360 this morning to save the file again, but now it crashes every single time I try to export the .iges file.

What is going on???

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to the Fusion 360 Forum!

That sounds frustrating. Just to rule out a common issue with IGES exports, is the design you're trying to export made entirely in BREP (solid or surface bodies) or are there Mesh/Sculpt bodies (T-splines)? Mesh/Sculpt bodies will not export to IGES, so if your design has any Mesh/Sculpt components I would try converting them to BREP and trying the export again.

Are you able to export this design in a different file format? And are you able to export other files to IGES? If this is the only file that can't export and it can't export to any other file type, then something may have gone wrong with the recovery file. If you are able to export this file as an .f3d and it's ok share it, can you either post it here or share it with me?

One more thing- do you have another machine you could try exporting the file on? If not, that's fine.

I now believe the design file itself is corrupt after the crash experience yesterday. Other files appear to work just fine.

To refresh, yesterday I was working on a file that seemed to disappear off of my screen. Soon the software crashed, so I restarted and was able to open the recovered file successfully and keep working.

Now I can view it, but cannot close the file or export it without crashing.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for the additional information! I took a look at the crash report and I have a few more questions for you:

  • Most importantly, please upload your diagnostic log files. These can be found in the Help menu inside of Fusion.
  • Can you invite me to that project (instructions here) as well as tell me the name of the file you're having a problem with?
  • Are you able to close and export the file in offline mode?

Best,
