copying a component from one design to another

Hi -

Did something change recently, or am I doing something stupid?   I swear I used to be able to copy a component from one design to another by selecting the component from one design, then "copy", go to the 2nd design, and select "paste new" and my component would be added to the second design and that's how I moved bodies around.

Now, the "paste new" requires me to select something and shows "move/copy" on the top and I cannot paste in the component I copied from the other design.

What changed?

I think you are right, I used to do that but was not working the other day.

Used it yesterday and work the way it always has.

Here's a quick screencast pasting into the main component and pasting into a subcomponent.

@g-andresen I gave your video a like because I really, really like the blue eye balls used for hiding/unhiding objects in the browser. It makes so much more sense than that ridiculous grey in grey scheme.

Hi

So, it turns out that I only have trouble with these components in this one design.   When I "copy" the component and go to the new design and "paste new",  there is no selected component shown.    I tried it with a few other designs and it works fine.

I worked around it by just creating another component in the original design and copying in the body I wanted and then I was able to copy this new component into the new design.    I don't know why these other components are different, but I'm not going to try and figure it out.

I've had a couple of components that I couldn't copy into a new file recently.  If it happens again, I'll try to export the file and see if it repros.

Use derive, it allows you to either put your referenced body/component/part into a new part or an existing part. And it keeps a live link to your original. Or if needs be you can break the link.

Hi,

If it works for me and not for you, there will be a cause that AD experts could determine.
