Convex dimples I am designing a conical shape with convex dimples that get proportionally smaller as they run up the cone, similar to this sculpture. I do not know how to create the dimples at 2D to then rotate into 3D.

 

Also the other problem is that the filet tool does not work at the intersection between the edge of the cone ( straight line) and the dimple (semi-circle) to soften each dimple to flow into each other.

This video and this video might give you a starting point. Because of the shape of your main body you might want to project the profile/rails for the dimples onto the body.

thank you so much for sending these 2 links. It's made me realise that I need to go back to the beginning and do as many tutorials on the basics first! I will get there, its a fairly easy programme to use really.

Well Here is a manual approach that seems to work pretty will have to fiddle with the dimensions a little.
