Connecting sketch to a sketch in a different plane

Hi,

I have a basic understanding of projecting a sketch point to another in a different plane but I am struggling to find a solution to connecting a sketch line produced with a spline over a drawing that I am trying to connect to another sketch. I am trying to use the same technique to project a sketch point but when I go to edit the spline drawing and then project it, the sketch I am trying to connect to dissapears.  I have looked through various tutorials but can't find a lesson that helps.    My file is available below and should show what I am trying to do (badly). I am not sure if this is the best way of sharing/showing if needed.

Thanks

Peter

Hi @peter_campbell103,

Will you please create a screencast, we need to know exactly how you do it.

Cheers / Ben

stick the view cube on a angle being straight on makes this super hard to do being on a angle you can clearly see both sketches. This is how to do 3D sketch to make it easy.

The problem is the sketch you first did

You are editing it so you are taking the time line back to before the next sketch was done.

When you go to edit a sketch with the timeline on if you look at the timeline you will see everything after the sketch is graded out and everything before is not.

A better way to do it is put in a plane for the next sketch before you do the first sketch, then that plane will be there when you edit the sketch but you still will not have the second sketch only a plane.

The best way I have found to do it, is do all the work on a 3rd sketch, 1st sketch what you wont it to have, the second the projected stuff (points sketch elements) the 3rd one the connecting stuff (1st to 2nd sketch). this will give you what you need to see when doing any edits.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for your reply.  I sketched it out in a different sequence and managed to get the sketches to connect correctly - thanks for confirming the issue I was seeing and providing the way around it.  I have a loft problem now where my rails are intersecting the profiles more than once.......

Cheers

I asked you for a screencast in order to make sure, that other things are in order like your workflow. But if you have everything under control, that's great.

Ben.

It's parametric Sketching for ya you have to get it in the correct order, It's not something you can learn in a week It takes time and you still can get it wrong after years or 2 years useing cad programs.

Sometimes you just have to start again.

you can get Screencast from here https://knowledge.autodesk.com/community/screencast
