Component Properties is too slow.

I have noticed that, since the new version for component properties has been introduced, it has been responding very slow irrespective of the number of parts or file size. Sometimes this takes even up to 30 seconds to load. Earlier, when it was simpler, it showed results instantaneously. Why is this so?

Hi @rkr308
Please update Fusion 360 to the latest version (2.0.12670) and also try the following solution.

Solution 1:

Access to the properties of the Body instead of the component one.

  1. Go to the desired body.
  2. Right mouse click.
  3. Select Properties

Solution 2:

  1. Go to the Avatar at the top right of Fusion 360.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. In the Graphics driver drop-down menu, select DirectX 9.

Solution 3:

  1. Close Fusion 360.
  2. Create a new Windows environment variable.

The variable name is :

  1. Launch Fusion 360.

Thanks &Regards

Thanks for the quick and detailed reply.

I have an assembly with 20-30 parts including a few linked components. It is taking close to 30 seconds to give component properties. I want to know how long it takes for a complex assembly on your PC. I have 12GB RAM, i5 7300hq, GTX1050 4GB graphics.

Solution 1:

I knew the body properties option was faster. For component properties with the same part, it takes more time.

Solution 2:

DirectX9 is not improving the performance of component properties.

Solution 3:

Adding a new environment variable is not improving the performance of component properties.

indeed its slower and also now I need to click another button to see the weight/ volume ect ...its a bit of a downgrade for me tbh

Hi @rkr308 ,

Thanks for reporting the problem. If possible, can you post a f3d to reproduce this issue? I tried a couple of components with more than 50 occurrences. The performance looks good. Each time it is 1 or 2 seconds to show the properties.

@raymondxu

In the designs in which I am facing these problems, I have these general features:

  • More than 100 bodies.
  • Several linked components.
  • Some inserted-unliked-edited components.
  • Many imported (Mcmaster Carr) fasteners.
  • 3 to 4 different materials were used.
  • No surface parts.

Thanks @rkr308 . We will try to reproduce it. Or you have f3d can share with me, you can send to my autodesk email.

No problem. @rkr308 . I can see some delay when components occurrences becomes big in some models. Will log a defect to team.

Thank you for reporting.

@rkr308  A quick update, I can reproduce in relative bigger assembly. It looks Fusion is busy on calculating mass properties. When we have too many components and complex geometries in the model, it is slow. We will take a look how to improve.

@raymondxu Thanks for the update.

I would like to add the problem mentioned by @stiller.design. Having to click an extra button to get mass properties is annoying. It would be great if it is fixed.

@rkr308  to be honest, mass properties calculation is heavy operation for large model. There is no way to display it immediately as part number. Eventually, we need some tradeoff there.

@raymondxu As far as I know, for many people, in most cases, the mass of the assembly(and maybe the centre of gravity) matters much more than its moments of inertia. So, if mass could be displayed immediately and inertia takes time to load, it would simplify things for many folks.

Nevertheless, I used to see the properties option work quickly in earlier versions of Fusion360.

@raymondxu

The problem still persists and seems to have become worse.

I made a simple 100x100x100 mm cube as a component in a new empty design. Then, I clicked on the body and went to properties to get mass - I got the properties displayed instantaneously. Next, I right-clicked on the component and clicked on properties - This took thirty seconds.

This kind of behaviour is really irritating. Please check.

It seems that I cannot reproduce the performance issue on my machine. I followed your workflow and spent about 2 seconds to show the properties of Component. Please refer to the attached video.

Thanks,

Steven

Can you please Create a component and then create a cube inside that component?

Tried to create a sub component and no obvious difference with previous workflow. Did you see some performance difference between different workflows?

Thanks,

Steven

I tried this in two different systems. One workstation and one gaming laptop. Both are showing this behaviour.

Does the performance change with licence type?

The lag occurs when I create a component. Creating a body directly works quickly (same as in your first video).

It is not related to license type🙂. What's the OS and version of your machine? I may try more machines to see whether I can reproduce the performance issue or not.

Thanks,

Steven
