Combine moving components and stop opject clipping

Hello all,

Fairly new to fusion 360 and trying to learn the basics about joints components and bodies.

Issue summary:

When I create 2 components with a joint, how can I combine them into one component or object, while still retaining their joint but allowing them to be moved in conjuction.

Also, is there an option I can enable to stop boddies passing through eacother wheh moved as a joint(without setting min/max values?)

context:

I am trying to design a harddrive bay/caddy system and needed help with the above for the followng reasons.

the Harddrive caddy has a main enclosure and a handle that moves so the handle must stay with the caddy when it is moved.

To put the caddy in an enclosure, it should not cut/clip through the walls but should instead obey the laws of physics and 'stop'.

Thank you so much in advance and sorry of there are any posts already explaining this..

Luca

Attach your model so the Forum users can take a look and give suggestions.  If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 model follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save as a F3D or F3Z file to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section, of a forum post, to attach it.

Set.a Revolve Joint between handle and tray, on the handle pivot axis.

set the Joint limits, presuming zero (closed) and say 110 degrees (in use).

Might help....

In the attached model, I have placed two components, with a joint between them, in a Sub-Assembly, is this what you mean by your first question?

Also, I have added a Contact Set between the components so they will not intersect.  I have not used Joint Limits as per your specifications.  I will caution you about using Contact Sets as they are very unpredictable and finicky.

Thanks, I will definitely reasearch contact sets a bit more.

My current progress is an arm that does not open too far however I can 'close it too far' and then pivot the other object arround its axis somehow? - see the attached video.

apologies, widows did not capture the menus so I will briefly sumarise what happens when my mouse moves randomly.

--ignore all mouse movement before I interact with the model the first time.

1st interaction, demostrate the spinning

then, I enable the pivot limits and display those in action.

after that, I dissable the limits and enable the contact monitoring.

then I demonstrate how it works to stop over extension, but will cause the other component to rotate.

finaly, I demonstrate with my mouse that there is a beam in the 'caddy' portion of the model which the arm still passes through...

Thanks so much for your advice

Luca

You are forgetting that every assembly must have AT LEAST one grounded component.  In this case it should be your green component.  Another thing, your video recorder does not record screen dialog boxes, you need to find one that does.  Also when adding a video use the icon on the toolbar instead of attaching it.

after grounding the green object, the pivot acted correctly and the objects can be moved together. Thank you so incredibly much for solving my issue so quickly!
