combine (cut) operation results in 2 bodies

I used 9 tool bodies to cut into a larger body (named 'fluid volume') to create a cavity. It worked fine for a while, but today when I did it the new component created has two bodies with the named 'fluid volume' and 'fluid volume (1)'. the duplicate body with '(1)' at the end of its name is odd. If I hide everything else I can't see anything at all on screen. Anyone has an idea what this is? strange duplicate body in blue circlestrange duplicate body in blue circle

The name just means it's the second body of 'fluid volume' after the Combine|Cut operation.  If you're in Timeline mode, delete it using the timeline or use the Remove operation.  If you're in Direct Model mode, you can just delete it.
