Centre point Rectangle

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi
New to all this...

Just created a Rectangle form a Centre point, Great.
How do I independently change each side (to make it not an equal rectangle?
 e.g.

tapered slightly.

Many thanks

J

You could by deleting the all the automatically placed constraints on the rectangle but why bother, just use the line command and draw what you want in the first place.

ok, So I want one side smaller.
Can I edit that dimension ? or delete and re-draw?

what do you want it to look like, and what does it look like now (no screen shot or model attached)?  A rectangle by definition has a length and a width.  If you specified the length and width on creation  If you want something else, you will have to start removing the constraints that make it a rectangle (the horizontal, parallel, and perpendicular constraints)

So, say I wanted one side 10mm smaller, is it best to draw as a rectangle, get it looking perpendicular and squared, then delete one of the sides you want smaller and re-draw?

You should just start over and use the line command, make it roughly what you want it to look like, then add dimensions and constraints to finish.

It would help to watch some absolute beginner videos on YouTube as well.

Hey that's cool!
I drew this, but can't make the top line be in the middle and move lines around easily..

Capture.JPG

As you can see - I want to have 48mm at the Top, tapered down to 44.90. The middle line is just to help me find the middle.
I guess I should of drawn the top width then bottom width.
But how do I Move a line drawn, right click, move and copy, then selecting the lines gives me multi tool that when I move the little square in it just doesn't do as expected...
Anyone shout out good reference books, etc?
Some basic help would be appreciated.

In you're previously posted picture, you have...

1. the left side constrained vertical,

2. the left and right sides constrained parallel to each other (meaning the right side must also be vertical)

Therefor, geometrically speaking, the distance between the left side and the right side must be the same at the top of them, at the bottom of them, or indeed anywhere along their length. So you've got a situation wherein you can't close the bottom and the top with different length lines. It's just a geometric impossibility.

Hopefully by watching my video you've learned how to correct that situation. Delete those parallel constraints between the left and right sides, because the right side is going to have to lean over. Make the two unconnected endpoints at the top/right coincident with each other. The top line is already constrained perpendicular to the left line, so either constrain the bottom line perpendicular to it also, constrain the bottom line horizontal, or constrain the top and bottom lines parallel with each other.

Glad to help when I can.

If you feel we've solved your stated problem, please take a second to select one or more posts as the "Solution" to the thread. (Doesn't have to be mine only...any post that gave you decent information that helped you figure it out.) Doing so helps the next guy when he has a similar question and is searching for answers. Plus, maybe Autodesk will send us free doughnuts.

OK - In the pic below, I've removed the constraints, but how do I snap together the 2 Dots highlighted (Oh and just made the top and bottom Parallel so that it becomes Tapered......

Thanks

Hi,

this way:

coinci.gif

Alternatively to the parallel constraint you can set the top line to horizontal just as the bottom line is.

Arrrgh

So frustrated with myself.

I get this now......

Capture3.JPG

It moved it off its axis - but adding dimensions it is in-deed Tapered

I'm kinda surprised, after all our efforts, that when the thing tilted on you, your brain didn't immediately think, "Oh, I must need a vertical/horizontal constraint somewhere."

And who are you ????

Someone who was bullied at school and feels it right to now patronise?

I said I was new, I am learning - What's your problem?

Wow. After the time I put in to help you, you really think I'm patronizing you or bullying you? I'm sorry you've taken it that way.

I just said I was surprised. I was wondering where I could have done a better job on the video.
