Center a Cylinder in a hole

Hello All

 

Very new to F360 and in fact i'm very new to the entire concept of 3D design. So please bare with me.

 

I am attempting to design a new 2 stroke engine for a specific application.

 

I have gotten to the piston and have 2 issues I cannot seem to resolve.

 

1: I have created a hole through a shelled cylinder (the piston case) to accommodate the gudgeon pin. But I can't seem to work out how to center the gudgeon pin (another cylinder with a hole through it) in the hole I created for it.

 

2: I can't work out how to dome the top of the piston ever so slightly (1-2mm) over the diameter of the piston.

 

If someone would be so kind as to point me to where I may be able to find the answer so that I may learn rather than giving me the answer (I like to work for things a little) it would be most appreciated.

 

I know it is a big ask for a newby to take on such a project. But I had to start somewhere, and I figured it may as well be something I have a passion for.

  1. First of all make sure that each part of your engine has its own component, so your piston will be one component and the gudgeon pin another component. Then you can use joints to position the gudgeon pin in the piston, then use another joint for the piston in the cylinder etc.
  2. There are several ways you could dome the top of the piston. The simplest would be to add a revolved half-segment to either add or remove material from the top. (Edit: BTW, I would have probably modelled the piston as a single revolve from the beginning).

I'd also strongly recommend going through some of the basic tutorials so you get a good foundation in Fusion 360 and 3D modelling in general.

Do you have any experience making real world 3D geometry on a lathe and milling machine?

I have very limited knowledge in both.

 

I've just purchased a HAAS Mini Mill.

 

I have never been able to get to grips with 3D modeling even way back in the Autocad days. But I'm willing to learn.

That was quite helpful. I discovered that I was creating all the components as a single component. Piston and gudgeon pin together.

 

I have just discovered NYC CNC tutorials. I'm finding these easier for me to understand than the F360 tutorials I've already watched. But we all learn differently.

 

So now I'm starting at the beginning again with my learning in the hope that I can grasp a better understanding of what I am attempting to do.
