Canopy/Pod for Quadcopter

Hello peeps,

I want to design a Canopy/Pod for a drone frame I have and I have been learning at a furious pace but I'm a little confused as to where to start and what tools to use.

Can someone point me in the right direction please.

I have attached a PNG of what I'm trying to achieve.

I have to design it around 4 separate dimensions.

Hello there

It looks like quite a complicate geometry so you'll probably need a lot of different features to accomplish it if you do it in the model environment (extrusion, sweep, filet, etc.). The patch environment (for modeling surface bodies) may be better for less conventional geometry but it takes more patience and ability.

If you're not used to Fusion 360 I'd recommend you watch some tutorials first. Then start from widest part in the bottom and go up, capture design history so you don't get lost. Also check the "attached canvas" feature, it helps a lot.

Cheers

Hi ,
Yes, thanks for your reply and I have watched a lot of tutorial videos and
I'm still watching them 🙂
I have tried modelling and sculpt and other methods but I need more
knowledge as I hit hurdles I can't solve atm,
I'll keep plugging away.
Cheers

If you're new to CAD your "problem" is not only the tools, but firstly to dissect this object into simpler geometric base forms that it's made off. That is normal and it takes a little experience.

Once you are able to do that you'll have to be able to relate that geometry to a tool it might've ben created with.

I can already tell you that this started nicely, but then was butchered with horrible filleting proving that just because you use an expensive piece of software (Solid Works) does not automatically relate to great work 😉

Yes I am new and I realise I'm sadly lacking in knowledge but I'm trying to
learn as quickly as I can, looking at the model I can see extrusions and
yes a copious amount of fillets and I have tried to imagine a process of
doing this but the faces aren't straight and this has confused me amongst
other things.
I've tried sculpting and lofts and extrusions but to no avail at this point.
If I had advice on the basic steps needed this would help a lot because I
really don't know where to start atm

Try to imagine the shape without any of the fillets, because for the most part, those were applied last.
