Cannot select the desired path for a sweep, only a section of it

Hi!

My design intent is to cut out a labyrinth track from a square base that has a semi-circular groove.

To do that, I want to sweep a profile of a circle through a base following an "intricate" path. When I select the path in the sweep dialogue box, it only selects a small fraction of the path. I would like to sweep along the entirety of the path representing the maze. See attached image1

I created the path by starting with a series of concentric circles, used the break command to eliminate certain arcs from the circles, added short lines to join the ends of some concentric arcs and filleted the corners between lines and arcs. As far as I can tell, the end of arcs and lines are coincident and/or tangent-constrained. I cannot tell what is different between the segment juncture where the sweep path stops and all the other segment junctures in that sketch. Image 2 shows the sketch of the path.

I looked for a join type of command but cannot find one... Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Christoph

It works for me when the diameter of the profile is less than the path offsets.

Double click the Path, if there is a continuous track it will be selected, both sides of the mouse position, until it finds a break.

yellow icons, may interfere with things.

blue lines should keep you awake.

Might help….

Hi! I suspect there might be duplicate curves or the curves don't have coincident constraints. Please share the f3d file here. The forum experts can help take a look.

Many thanks!

Thanks @etfrench! I tried that, reducing the radius of the profile to a fraction of the offset width but it still won't allow me to select the entire path for a sweep. It must be something about how I have built that path.

Hi @johnsonshiue ! I would be much obliged if you checked out my work (F3D file attached) and told me where I messed up. I am a beginner with Fusion and appreciate your help!

Here's the file.  I'd recommend you fully constrain your sketch(es) using concentric, coincident, and horizontal/vertical constraints as well as dimensioning all geometry.

Thanks @etfrench ! I will look at how you built this and how you constrained the different elements of the path. Thank you for your help.

I was too lazy to fully constrain it, but you should😀

Hi Chris,

Many thanks for sharing the file! There are indeed quite a few places on the curves having tiny gaps, lacking coincident constraints. It is quite laborious to apply those constraints so that a continuous path can be created.

Instead, I used Extrude Surface command to extrude the curves to create surfaces. Then I used Stitch command to create a quilt. Lastly the bottom surface edges were selected to create the Sweep. Please take a look.

@johnsonshiueThanks for your advice! I checked out how you proceeded in the timeline and was really interested in the "stitch" feature. Thanks for showing me that. The labyrinth turns out a little differently, but I like it!

Best, CH
