Cannot open Fusion after jan 2017 update

I will uninstall and re-install if the problem persists.  Anyone else having issues?

Hey @KhaiE - can you provide a few details about the behavior you're experiencing, are you seeing any kinds of error messages?

I could not open Fusion 360 from the icon that was installed on my desktop after the update.  I just got the white Autodesk Fusion 360 intro screen, and when I tried to close the program I got the Windows "Fusion 360 is not responding" message.

But I can open it from the previous icon.  And I can open it from the Start menu.

Maybe I was trying to open it at the same time it was updating?

Yeah seems the new icon is broken. works from local app manager and start menu.

Thanks @Anonymous and @KhaiE - not that i'm doubting, but are you 100% certain the icon that ISN'T working is the new one that was placed by F360 during install?

Brian -

I'm 99%+ certain.  New icons always go automatically to the upper-left corner of my screen.  The previous icon is in the top middle of my screen.  The icon in the upper-left didn't work, the one in the top middle did work.  Then I opened Fusion 360 from the Start Menu and it worked okay.

Hi,

Do you know if the icon was pointing to the Fusion360.exe or the FusionLauncher.exe?

If pointing to the Fusion360.exe this will fail with updates because the folder location changes with each update.

The icon should be pointing to the FusionLauncher.exe file located in the {6a0c961129...} folder that does not change.

I'm now having similar issues as well.  I can open Fusion from the start menu and it seems to always work.  But if I copy that icon from the start menu to the desktop or to the quick launch bar, those icons won't open Fusion.  I'll either get the splash screen and then nothing else, or I'll get the application window that is completely unresponsive.  Checking the properties of these icons shows that they are all pointing to the same target, which is ...\AppData\Local\Autodesk\webdeploy\production\6a0c9611291d45bb9226980209917c3d\FusionLauncher.exe

I prefer to use the quick launch bar and not desktop icons, and this has always worked before.

Hi,

Regarding the icons, you might see that if Fusion has updated but not been restarted since updating. The icon will point to the old location until the update completes.

Hi,

Your designs are safe and accessible.

The install of Fusion is separate and so no, you won't lose anything.

On the reinstall:

  • Windows - use Explorer to navigate to c:\users\username\appdata\local\autodesk\.
  • OSX - Use Finder to go to /users/username/library/application support/autodesk/

Next delete the folder "webdeploy". Exit Explorer/Finder.

Then rerun the Fuson 360 Client Downloader.

SOLVED

After severall failed re-installs

I found the Fusion 360 cleaner.

After cleaning ALL items I downloaded F360 again

And could run Fusion 360 - seen as a brand new user - and  my designs were still there

HIP HIP HURRAY

regards,

Pieter
