Cannot close sketch

Hi all, I'm new with Fusion 360 and any 3D drawing program in general and I'm doing my first project.

I've create 2 sketches, each by doing half of the shape and then using mirror tool.

I added the black joint on the right one (in black) so I closed the sketch.

Now If I try to do a open/close spline curve, I get strange behaviour:

I could close the one below and the one full right (which are now visible, were not in first capture).

You can see the far left has changed shape and the second is like it didn't take the bottom line as closing line.

Hope somebody can help with this issue. Thank you !

The white dot represents that it is open at that point. I don't know if you created two different splines at that point or if that is where you mirrored the spline. Usually you can just drag the point until you get a blue box around the point and that will close the spline.

Hi,

please share the file and show (screenshot) what you want to achieve.

File > export > save as f3d. On local device > attach to next post

Thank you for your answer whittakerdw

I could close one with the "blue box" help but not the other (no blue box). Where I can't close, It's effectively the point where I made the mirror but since I started at 0;0, and used the plane for mirror, I don't understand why the mirror makes 2 different points. Also if I look at coordinates while selecting the point, I see X:6.073E-05. How can I set it to 0 ?

Also last strange thing is that I've a single orphan point at sketch center and I can't delete it. If I select it and I click on "delete", it doesn't delete and also I can't select it anymore while "delete" window is opened.

For the one I could close, here is the "shape" when I close spline curve:

I don't know why I get this ?

Thank you for your support

Hi,

If you share the file, we might see clues to possible causes.

Here is the 3df file. What I want to achieve is to make a 3d object using the sketches. I could do the far right, the bottom but I can't close the first and second sketches. The "Cote" and "vertical" lines will then be used to make the "path" of the 3d object (don't know how it's named, I'm looking at a non-english tutorial for now).

Thank you for help

Hi @bedford

If you zoom-in there are open sketches.

Closing them will fix the problem.

Edit: Added f3d file with closed profiles

Have you gone thru the sketching tutorials?

as a first project i would highly suggest something that doesn't involve using splines.  splines i fusion have some quirks that might be hard to workout without a firm handle on fusion sketching generally.

Most here will recommend not using mirror/symmetry in sketches at all.  the reasons are myriad, bit it boils down to  that the way these are implemented in fusion is a bit jacked.   Gets worse when used with splines.

Thank you for images but how it is possible to get this zoom details ? When I zoom at maximum I don't see such a distance between points.

Hi @bedford

You can use Zoom Window from Navigation Bar

I agree with @laughingcreek, Wont recommend mirroring or using patterns on Splines.

Thank you for your reply. It's my first project using splines but unfortunately it's the one that pushed me to start using Fusion 360. All my future project will use splines. Maybe there is a way to make "mirror" points using the mouse instead of mirror the spline.

I can't move the point after zooming deeper:

I move the point, then I click OK and once clicked, it keeps at the same place. Do I miss something ?

Hi @bedford

The point(Green Colour), the one you are trying to move is Fixed.

Use to Unfix using Constraints.

Hi,

1. Enable Design History!

2. For splines, the rule for the number of control points for a harmonic curve is:

As many as necessary, but as few as possible.

This is where we are leaving off.

This is the part where the COINCIDENT restraint is attached.

bunga_0-1671553395342.png

Here is the same phenomenon.

bunga_1-1671553490083.png

I don't know what is wrong with this part, but it sure doesn't seem to match.

I have no choice but to erase one side and re-mirror it with a Virtical constraint where necessary.

Vertical restraints are attached.

Mirror.

P.S.

I did not set history to capture this time because it would make it impossible to edit the sketch, but I think it is essential to set history to capture when doing this kind of design. I think it is better to set history as capture and proceed with the work now.
