cannot change visiobility

Hello,

I have 2 models in 2 separate files and I have created new design. Next I have opened file Manager and have used "Insert Into current design" one model, then the second one.

When I am in the new design I cannot do anything on any inserted models. I am getting message that visibility cannot be changed because it's read only in referenced document.

How to make it possible to work on these models?

Thanks

Marek

The inserted designs are "Linked" components.  (do you see the chain link symbol next to the name of the component in the browser?) there are 2 ways you can change them

1-edit the original file, then go back to current design and update

2-right click and "unlink" the component in your current design

Perhaps we should notice, that the unlink (or wasn't it "Break link") will disable updates done int the original file. What visibility do you want to change? Bodies? Convert  them into components and you should be able to change the visibility in the linked file.

that only works on a unlinked file that you break link by right clicking and selecting break link or do it in the parent

If your linked file contains components you can change the visibility of this components.

Edit: The 1st file is an imported step file, the 2nd is a native fusion file.

rudey wording was in the way. Yes you can turn off components in components, you cant adjust their visibility as in the opacity that I have ever seen, I may be wrong.

@daniel_lyall: Unless the menu point "Opacity control" is not available for linked components, I hadn't this option in mind. Sorry if my screencast felt rudey . This wasn't my intention.

It's the text that runs down the side it makes it hard to see what getting done in the tree, And I guessed you meant change the bodys to components in the linked file not its parent it read that way.

There is a problem with components in components in components you have to be careful how you do the component conversion, components in components is fine just not the 3 in a row, there's lots of little things that can go wrong if you don't know the outcomes of some things in fusion.

Quite often it pays to say the 99% chances of not getting a problem answer as in what laughingcreek said to do, that's the safe answer.

I have broke the link and now it looks like it was the problem for me.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but this is an inexplicable limitation to me, surely object opacity should be able to be set per instance of a referenced object as it's a workflow/user interface tool rather than having anything to do with material/rendering.

Yeah... not being able to adjust opacity on linked components is dang annoying.

Since a couple of month there is a new feature called Insert -> Insert Derive that gives you a greater degrees of freedom if it comes to manipulate included designs. Here is a thread with more details for this new feature.
