Can't relocate the pivot point in Animation

I'm trying to animate hinges using Transform Components, but I can't get the pivot point moved to where I want it.

The component can be selected by clicking or picking from the browser:

Animation Component Select.jpg

After selecting I click on Transform Component and get the dialog and pivot point. It won't let me move the pivot point by grabbing the arrows, so I put values in the dialog box. After that I click on the checkmark to accept the change.

Animation Pivot Moved.jpg

After clicking on the checkmark the pivot returns to its original position.

Animation Pivot Accepted.jpg

I can move/rotate the component before and after trying to move the pivot, so it's not a body.

Is something wrong with my component?

Hi @keo789

Welcome to the Fusion 360 online community! Thanks for posting. It looks like you are experiencing an issue in which the set pivot for a Move/Transform command. Unfortunately, I have been unable to recreate the behavior you are experiencing in my own files.

Would you mind sharing your Fusion 360 design in which this behavior is occurring with me? If you'd prefer to keep the design private, feel free to share with a public link in a direct message to me. I'm happy to help!

Hi Paul,

Here's the link: http://a360.co/2mj7y12

The legs fold in to store the crossbars when you move the table. I'm trying to do an animation of the legs unfolding and the crossbars moving into place. The joints work in the Model view. It lets me change the pivot when I use Move in the Model view, but not when I try to Transform Components in Animation. I tried deleting the joints, but that didn't help.

Thank you!

Hi @keo789

Thanks for attaching the file! Unfortunately, I think you may have attached a different file than was included in your original post and the issue did not seem to occur in the file I have.

It looks like the file referenced in your initial post was "Box Animation v2," but the file I have is "Folding Stand v1." I was able to redefine the pivot point for both sets of legs in the "Folding Stand v1" file - please attach the "Box Animation v2" file if you are still experiencing this behavior. I have shown the results I got with the attached model in the screencast below.

Hi Paul,

The file I shared was a renamed copy of the one I showed in the pictures. Today I went in and deleted a bunch of components that had nothing in them and converted all of the bodies to components. Now it works, and I was able to make and record a video:  http://a360.co/2lZ6rWV

I don't know I made the empty components, but could they have been causing the problem? Or maybe it was because I hadn't converted all of the bodies to components?

Thanks!!

Hi @keo789

Thanks for the response - I'm glad the Move/Transform command is working as intended now!

This certainly could have been due to some bodies not being defined as components. The animation workspace requires the move command to be applied to components. Perhaps a body was originally associated with a different component and led to the strange behavior you experienced.

Please let me know if you see this issue occur again and we will continue looking into it!

I have this same issue, and I have been playing around with it, but can't find the solution from the tips here.

I am new to Fusion, so i probably don't really understand the basics yet.

My problem is the same as described in the original post. I have tried to make all bodies into components for each individual file, but nothing changes. When i try to set pivot point in animation i can not move the controller with my mouse, and I can not place it on any geometry, since the controller does not react to any mouse action.

Could somebody please refer me to tutorial or anything that can explain the basics of how to prepare models and assemblies for animation? I need something to tell me how to set things up right so that things are ready for whatever one wants to do in amimation. Any troubleshooting page for this, if things still does not work?

Hi

TrippyLighting has made a little video of how to relocate the pivot point at https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-design-validate/set-pivot-to-center-object/td-p/6472545. Yes, it is a video in the design workspace, but it works just as well in the animation workspace.

Not intuitive, but once you know it, it works!

Remove all non rigid joints and ground, save the file as other name.

I solved my animation pivot locked this way.
