Can't extrude splines

I imported a STL and drew a spline profile to extrude but when I select it and initiate extrude I can't select it to do so. I'm trying to follow this lesson:  1:30 in

I also wanted to know how he calls up the sculpt box.

You are likely still in Modelling area, (default for many people)

you cant extrude a spline there, it only works on curves in Patch and Sculpt.

The video is all in sculpt, up to 1.30 that I watched to, you can sketch in that area too,

Sculpt is opened by clicking on the purple icon top menu, or in Create Menu near the bottom.

It won't extrude in patch either? Thanks for responding. I've been in sculpt the whole time.

Clue here is STL file, depends now on your data,

they can be manipulated in Mesh area, is a bit cluncky to obtain modelling data from STL and depends what you want to do, presumed you are tracing the outline, but.....

Extrudung Splines in Sculpt - should work.

No it wouldn't if I pressed E but if I used the sculpt box it did it no problem. Do you know why? Also he then selects the whole edge with one click. Do you know what hotkey that is? Thanks for the help BTW

Select whole edge is double left click, he could be quick at it.
