Can not merge objects after split

Hi there,

I am trying to remerge a splitted object.

What I did:

I needed to add some length to the middle of a part. So I cutted my part with 2 splittings out. Then I splitted my part as well, moved one of the tiles and filled the gap between the tiles.

Then I wanted to remerge those parts to 1 mainpart.

But when trying to merge the extended part it's throwing the mentioned error.

What I tried:

- extend the length of one of the touching walls to let them overlap -> no effect

- check collision -> does not allow collision check (OK-Button stays disabled)

- extrude one of the touching walls and "merge" other part -> same error as mentioned

In the Screenshot you see the seperated part. The line along the back is where I extended and remerged it.

As for I splitted the main body for two times, I had 4 sub parts. The other 3 parts where able to remerge fine. Its only the selected part.

I am a little nervous sharing my model because I know that many things could be done way cleaner or easier. I'll see what the responses are.

For the objects in my File:

`mitte broken (1) (1) (1)` should be merge to `mitte/mitte broken (1)`

your troubles with this particular thing started way back at this loft-

which created some really awful geometry that folded into itself and extended into nearly infinitely thin edges at places-

brep modelers REALLY don't like stuff like this, and I'm frankly surprised the loft didn't fail immediately.

after some further slicing and dicing and  moving things around fusion finally decided it just wasn't going to do anything more with it.

This is the reason why experienced users here  try to steer people towards good solid modeling techniques.

things like not fully defining sketches, using move, not paying attention to surface quality, not fixing yellow and red errors in the time line, etc. etc. can all lead to situations where things can't be easily remedied.

IMHO this model is a complete redo.  I would suggest starting a new thread, posting pics and examples of where your trying to go with the project, and post a model with just your first sketch.  You will most likely receive loads of help to get you moving forward.

I agree, but that's quite OK. The design in its current state is more a prototype design to find the right form and explore workflows. My exploratory designs also don't always exhibit the cleanest workflows.

Design is an interative process where prior work informs the next steps. There are no shortcuts.

Sometimes that requires to start from scratch!
