I have copied a carved top guitar model from thingiverse and I want to create and offset into the guitar that is parallel to the top compound curved surface.

Is that possible?

Could you attach the 3d model or a picture?

is it a .stl or a nurbs surface?  if it's from thing verse chances are it's a .stl (mesh) file.  probably best to do it with mesh mixer.   fusion isn't the right tool for editing mesh files.

it is a fusion 360 file.  attacjed is the model.

I want to create a surface 3/16 inch down from the top of the guitar so I can create a seperate body for the top of the guitar.

see last 3 features in timeline of attached

I suspect your going to end up wanting to go about your build a little different than this.

I can create the offset face but how do you split the bodies after that?  I see in your timeline there is a surface untrim.

How do you do that?

Thanks

OK  I dont know how I missed that.  Now, I am loosing my mind.  I thought I knew how to create the offset body but I see I was just modifying yours.  How do I create the offset body?

I tried offset face but that does not leave the original.

I've not looked at @laughingcreek s file but I believe You need to change into the Surface tab to offset an individual surface.

sorry  I think I figured out that I was using the wrong BODY.

In the attached picture, what is the difference between Body11(1) under Bodies(which I can untrim) and

top offset boddy(2) under Bodies under 3d sculpted solid body:1 (which I get the untrim error on)?

anybody know what the difference between those 2 bodies is?  They look like the same when you turn them on in fusion.

the pic, the latest model you posted, and the description of the bodies your asking about don't match up, so it's hard to answer.

also noticed that the original t-spline surface used to form the top of the guitar is still present in the model, you can probably just offset that with out having to worry about untrimming.
