Can I detach a sketch?

Suppose I paste in a component that I use to create a sketch with.  Now I want to lose the component and use the sketch created for some other geometry.   Can I unlink the sketch keeping it within the design?

Yes. Edit the sketch, window select all the sketch objects, right-click and select break link.

However, that sketch will be fully unconstrained.

Got it.  Thanks.

I forget to enter the sketch edit mode because a sketch can be readily highlighted/selected in the modeling mode.

I wonder if there could be a color change to indicate the difference.

Well, it always something.

Now I'm trying to edit a sketch that was based on some imported geometry that I'd unlinked.  But I'm unable to select any lines to manipulate.

Well, maybe you need to go a bit slower and pay attention to what the UI is telling you.

I've loaded down your assembly and have no problem editing that sketch, which, again, is fully unconstrained.
