I would like to model a lens housing to hold an acrylic lens. One part to hold the lens, which screws both ways to the outer housing. I made a prototype from an old telephoto lens. I'll attach a photo or two.

The purple bit and the first bit should be one piece. Which screws onto the outer housing.

How do I design the threads? How do I make the housings become wider further from the lens? They're slightly cone-ish.

You can either create custom threads or standard threads

Thanks! I figured I'm actually looking for a standard bayonet rather than a thread.

So you want to screw the housing against the lens? Than you have to take care of the brand. AFAIK they are all different.

Nope, I want to screw the inner and outer housing together. As they are in my original photo. I don't want my lens to screw onto another, as it is meant to be held in front of a normal lens.

Hey yeah! That kind of helps, I need to figure out how to do those kinds of things. Not sure if any of the comments on that thread explain how to. But I'll get to it. Cheers for helping!

Use two sketches.  The first is the side profile. Use the Revolve command to create the main body.  Second is the bottom where you can lay out the cutouts in the bayonet portion.  Most camera bayonet tabs are not symmetrical and may or may not need to be tapered.
