Bump map not applying properly

Hi,

I'm very new to fusion 360 and have really been enjoying it so far.

I've been working on my first model and have had issues applying bump maps to textures.

I want to apply two different bump maps to one component. One for the top or the cylinder and one for the side.

I am trying to make the component look like copper coils but every time I apply the top texture to the cylinder it looks fine in the render preview but as soon as I render the model, the bump map is only applied to 1/4 of the surface.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Can you share your model incl the textures, or maybe re-create a simple part to demonstrate the issue ?

Hey @Anonymous,

This looks to be a bit of a strange case. Before I jump into some tips, I want to say thanks for posting the screenshots. In addition, it makes it much easier to debug issues like this if you also include the file in the post since then other users can then download it and figure out the exact solution rather than guessing. That being said, allow me to take some guesses.

First, whenever I create a custom appearance, I usually start with a similar appearance from the menu, and then make the modifications necessary rather than start 100% afresh. So for this case, I'd probably start with a copper with a texture already applied, like Brushed Radial, then then go from there (after I finish and rename it, I'll then save it to Favorites or My Appearances).

Typically if I'm applying it to a circular face, I'll try to find a bump map that is square in resolution, and then scale the bump map such that it's 10-20% bigger than the face. From there, I'll adjust the offset values to half the value of the scale which makes the preview look like it has four quarters. I'm sure that's confusing, so check out this image of my setup for a circular face that's 3" in diameter.

You can see I set the Scale to 3.5, the Position Offset to 1.75, and then also made the texture Tile repeat in both directions. After that, I apply the Appearance only to the Face rather than the rest of the body. If all looks good, I perform a quick check with an In-canvas render before firing it off for final renderings.

Hopefully some variation of this workflow will help you, but let me know if you're still experiencing issues.

Thanks!
