I remember being able to do this a while back.  Either I forgot how or you can't do it anymore.

See screenshot and link. How can I bulk rename these 4 components to "A"

I don't remember ever being able to do this. I can't open your file for some reason, but looking at your screen shot I have to wonder why you want to . you have 4 unique components, renaming them all to the same name would be terribly confusing.

Hi @laughingcreek,  I know it sound crazy to do this but...

I was doing it a several months ago...  It was ultimately used to engrave part names.

After bulk renaming all the comps with a "SectionID", (f.x G=Clients Name A=section position)  I could run a script that would match the text using to engrave the the Section ID to the manufactured pieces.  See screenshot example.

How I remember it you could rename one and highlight the others and it would bulk rename. See GIF....hmmm?

That script is/was likely an Addin written by a user.

In the design workspace, I am fairly certain that you have not be able to "bulk rename" components.  What has always worked is:  If you have multiple instances of the same component, renaming one will rename them all (because they are just instances of a single component - you are only renaming that single component).  Also, you would be prevented from renaming different components with the same name anyway.

Maybe not Components, but Bodies and more for sure within a component. And not an add-in either.
I used to be able to this, and it was very useful... could do it with Bodies, Planes, sketches. Multi-select, and then (long?) press on any one to rename, enter new name, and all the selected items would get renamed NAME, NAME (1), NAME (2), etc. Very helpful when I had a lot of something that I wanted to have similar names for.

I had some other system issue that was preventing the regular F360 updates, just got that cleared and I'm good now... but the with latest update, I lost the ability to do bulk renaming. Grrr. A useful FEATURE imho, taken away to make life harder for me.

you are correct, I apologize.  This  DID exist, and is broken.  I legitimately did not know you could ever do this.  However, it was not "taken away to make life harder for me.".  It was an inadvertent mistake while trying to fix another issue.  See:  can-t-mass-rename-anymore

thank you for pointing to the answer in the other post....select all, hit F2, rename, enter, done.

Hi,

As @jeff_strater  has already mentioned, you make the change to only one component without selecting the others.
