Bugs in Mesh editor: Section Analysis, Select Back Faces

Hi,

I have a broken model with half of it's faces reversed. I'm trying to fix it. Problem is, those faces are "inside" my model:

So I am trying to select those inverted faces inside. I've tried Section Analysis to do this (hoping to hide half of my model).

And here I found first bug: when section Analysis enabled and I try to select - it select now invisible faces:

Then I've discovered feature in Mesh Palette: "Select Back Faces". I was hoping by switching this off, I will be able select all faces but those inverted ones, flip them, then select all faces and flip them again. But no, here is a second bug: When I double click (select all connected faces) this checkbox is not respected. Same goes for Grow Selection feature.

I am pretty sure these are all well known problems, but I thought it's better to mention them just in case.

This pumpkin design can be found here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:520419 if you wish to try your luck with reverting those faces with current Fusion360. 😃

Hi @soswow,

Thanks for sharing the screenshots.

The unselectable inside is not essentially a bug but it would be great to have a feature which allows

you to select the inside of a mesh body.

I have approached what you are looking for in another workflow by using "Generate Face Groups" and playing with the Threshold angle.

After creating Face groups, you can separate the bodies from each other and work independently.

Here is the file I have created. Please, feel free to use it.

I hope this helps,

Oh, I haven't seen angle threshold  I definitely see how I can use it here. Thank you! I will check out your model.

I am not which of two problems you referred here:

I specified two very specific ones: 1) When I double click (select all connected) or use expand tool - checkbox that meant to prevent me from selecting inverted faces (back face ones) - is not respected. 2) When I use section analysis I can't select what I see, but I select goest  faces I can't see, but can select.

Hi @soswow,

Thank you for the feedback.

Yes, the "Threshold Angle" does the trick and helps a lot. You just have to check for gaps afterwards and check for overlapping faces.

I could not see any ghost faces when I have used the section analysis tool but I will check it again.

Please, keep me updated if this helped

Thanks,

Hi @soswow,

Thank you for sharing the screencast.

Yes, I see that this is a bit confusing, using the Section Analysis to select the inside Face of the Mesh file.

The Section Analysis tool is just intended to be a view tool.

The best workaround for now would be to separate the mesh into two face groups at the symmetry plane and

hide one side once you work on the inside face.

Please, let me know if this would work for this design.

I will discuss this within the Fusion 360.

Thanks,
