Hi Matt,

This is unfortunate and troubling. Search is a fastest way to get to your designs and it busted is not a good sign.

In Jayco, I am assuming....you have designs with names having 442 and 1571 as substrings? I am sure you know that search is not a deep search but a shallow name level search.

I will check on our side about this issue too.

Hi Matt,

This is unfortunate and troubling....search is the fastest way to get to your designs.

I am sure you know...the search is a shallow and not deep....search only searches for name matches on substrings, so 1571 and 442 are substrings in the names of the designs in the Jayco project.

Let me check on our side if this is having issues.

The search not only doesn't find the items, it is searching through the wrong project!

Hi Matt,

Can you possibly share the project to smoghe at autodesk dot com? I will check this out.

Btw, your search string needs to be a word/token in the item name and cannot be a substring. This seems like a limitations/bug. Is this what you are expecting?

Some attached images of things that work for me:

This issue has evolved to a difficult bug to catch. Mine is not a misunderstanding to the features of the search. Thank you for sharing for other's sake.

I apologize, I won't share this project outside the networks of the participants in it.

In my absence from the forum I have experienced random moments of the search functionality working and moments of it not working. The only thing that remained relevant is the behavior changes when I restart fusion. However, since I have seen the functionality restored after constant restarts, it seems to be a tough bug to reproduce.

If there are a few methods I can do for you guys to track this down, I am fine with that. I am a competent technologist.

For now, I have seen this issue on three users computers. I just recommend restarting fusion if they can't be bothered to look through the soon to be hundreds of folders in my migration to your system.

Please help resolve this very real issue that my systems are having. Search is fundamental.

Matt

Sorry, to hear that the problem keeps unexpectedly bobbing up for you.

Can you possibly send me your diagnostic log  files? They might have a clue for me. You can attach them on this thread. This command to pick up the log files can be accessed at the top right in Fusion UI under the help ? dropdown.

Regards,

Shrirang

Hi Matt,

There is a drop down in the Search bar that allows you to set the scope for Search, I think in your case the scope was set to a different project. This is a bug/experience issue, we should be resetting the scope when you switch to a different project. I hope this explains why it was searching in a different project

thanks,

That was helpful, but the search isn't working still.

If I am searching for the substring, "700" shouldn't it return files or folders that contain "700" ?

I am not able to get my search function search substrings of file/folder names. Searching for numbers alone doesn't seem like it is working. If I search for TCC, which 100% of my parts have that in the name in one project, I get 15 results (not all of the conditions it should). If I search for TCC8658, I get those first in my search, but also get TCC891, and others that I feel shouldn't at all be coming in as a result. If I search for 58, I get 0 results, when I should be a bunch.

I have one project that has periods in the folder and file names if that matters....

Hi Matt,

Bad news...substring search is not supported 😞 I understand how powerful and useful it is, but unfortunately....this is not available today.

Let me check with the search team and get back to you. I was reported that it is available for BIM360 users but not Fusion 360 users.

If substring search is not supported then why does searching TCC even bring up anything? I have nothing that is just TCC?

So is it partially working?
