[Bug?] Mirrored geometry and extruding...

I'm not sure if this is a bug or a procedural problem. Your input would be apprecated.
I'm editing a sketch that will later be used to extrude protions of the model. I mirror some of the geometry from one side of the center line to the other to avoid introducting errors and to reduce work. I noticed that the mirrored geometry is inconsistently used to allow selecting polygons to be extruded. Where the original geometry would be used to demark or restrict areas in the sketch that could be used to select polygons for extruding, the mirrored geometry most often did not behave the same. This causes mirroring of geometry not to be an option when generating geometry for extruding and forces the operator to create all new independent geometry that can be used for selecting polygons for extruding.
Please let me know if I'm doing something wrong procedurally or if this is a bug.
