Browser Bodies Changing Order

Given the above setup, you can see I have specifically ordered the bodies in the Browser.
When I perform an operation on one of the bodies (in this case a `q` offset face) the entire order of the list changes to:

What is going on here? Is every design change going to change the order the bodies are in?

I'm searching around trying to determine if there is any way lock the order of objects in the browser but so far I haven't found any useful information.

Hi,

It is unusual to see so many bodies in one place. What is the purpose of so many?

Typically bodies are manipulated by combining and cutting to create a single body

that is then turned into a Component. It is Components that are your basic entity

that are used to create Assemblies and sub-assemblies with various joints.

Bodies change frequently when you manipulate them and sometimes without apparent

logic. A body cut in two and then rejoined will often create the following bodies. Body 1

will turn into Body 1 and Body 2 when you split them, but when you rejoin them you end

up with Body 2 and Body 1 disappears. Hence my question about what is the purpose of

all of these bodies.

I am thinking that the solution to your problem here is to create the initial bodies as you

have done and name them, and then before further manipulating them, turn them all into

Components. This can easily be done by selecting all the bodies and using the Convert to

Component command.

Once you have done this they should not move around in the browser tree. You can then

either manipulate each individual component or Join other components together with various

kinds of Joints, like a Rigid or Slider joint.

Cheers

While these statements may be true, they don't align with the changes I was making in Fusion. I was not creating or reducing the number of bodies. If we having meaningful control over the order of the bodies, then we should not see changes to the browser order, particularly when no bodies are being added or removed. Either it's an unintended feature to be able to reorganize the bodies, or a bug in the feature.

If you renamed an object in the browser, would you expect it to revert to it's original name when you modify the object with some tool?

As far as usage goes - adding 80 components to the project didn't really make sense to me. I am using the bodies as the base for the components. Having them named and organized was an important step in creating the components. My immediate solution was to fix issues with the base bodies I had made, and then organize everything again. While my components are now in place, any iteration on the base bodies will likely see this as a necessary step again.
